How a Quiz Can Help Build Your Email List
Quizzes are popular digital marketing tools that can help you engage and connect with your audience and grow your email list. Learn how to create a quiz with Interact to help build your email list.
Have you noticed how many people love taking quizzes and posting the results on social media?
Quizzes are fun. When we fill in quizzes, we often feel like somebody is really listening to us, understanding us and helping us learn. Once the quiz is complete, we usually get some kind of personalised benefit, whether it’s a freebie, a product recommendation or a fun personality trait. In return for access to these benefits, we’re asked for our email address. In a nutshell, this is how a quiz can help build your email list.
That all sounds fairly simple, right? But before jumping headlong into creating any old fun type of quiz to build your email list, remember that your email list is your customer list. Your customers are the people who are the most likely to want to buy your products, so make your quiz relevant to those people and to what you sell.
Let’s look at what to consider when creating your quiz.
1. Who’s Your Audience?
Hopefully you’ve already identified the people that make up your target audience. If not, this tool from HubSpot can help build your buyer personas. You want to target the right people with your quiz, so they take the quiz, sign up to your ma
2. What’s the Purpose of Your Quiz?
Think about what you’re going to give or offer your customer in order for them to join your mailing list. What are pain points you can help them solve? What can you offer them that improves their lives? If you sell jewellery to millennials, you might do a personality quiz titled “What’s your jewellery style?” where respondents answer questions that give you valuable insights about themselves, their jewellery choices and their shopping preferences. At the end of the quiz, you collect their email address and send them an email about their style, a corresponding photograph of a piece of your jewellery and a link to where they can purchase it.
This not only helps you build your email list. It also gives you valuable target market information and potential sales from the purchase link you placed in the email. 3 amazing benefits from one little quiz!
3. Draft Your Quiz Questions and Responses
You’ll probably find it easier to note down all your questions and responses first, so you can make sure they’re all relevant to the topic and flow in a logical order. People are likely to skip the quiz if you ask too many questions, so start with 5-7 questions, each with 3-5 possible responses to choose from.
When planning your questions, think about which type of quiz fits best with your topic and outcomes, using the quiz types below.
4. Build Your Quiz
Building and publishing a quiz is easy and fun with Interact’s online tool. It guides you through building your quiz step-by-step and even has over 100 templates to choose from! If you decide to use a template, it’s as simple as choosing a category such as photography, marketing, travel, automotive etc. Then you tell the system which type of quiz you wish to use (from the three above) and you’re presented with all the available pre-built templates that match the category and quiz type.
Once you’ve chosen a template, you can then start editing. Most of the editing happens on the page shown. You can edit the text by clicking in the text box. There are information buttons next to each editable field, to guide you along the way. You can edit the image for each question by either uploading your own images or using the integrated royalty-free Creative Commons COO images from pixabay.
Notice in the sidebar you can choose which content to edit at any time. You can also define your font type and colours under the styles heading. And at the very top of the menu, you can choose to set up an opt-in form, connect your email list to one of 25 popular email marketing platforms and map data to your list to allow you to target respondents based on their answers.
Are you one of those people who, when you’re creating something new, writing a new blog post or building a new integration, you want to just quickly skip over to another part of it and make a change to something on the fly? I am, and I found the Quick Menu (on the menu bar) to be the best tool for that. The Quick Menu allows you to quickly and easily skip between all the parts of the quiz builder. Everything in the Quick Menu (shown below) is clickable and will immediately take you where you want to go.
5. Prepare Your Quiz for Publication
Once your quiz is built, using the buttons top right of the menu bar, you can easily:
- Preview the quiz. If you need to go back and make any changes, simply use the Quick Menu or the sidebar.
- Save the quiz. It will be saved on the Interact system for easy access.
- Publish the quiz. This is an important step. Your quiz won’t be available for public access until you publish it.
- Once published, you’ll be presented with options for sharing and/or embedding your quiz.
It’s really as simple as that!
Having used and trained people in hundreds of systems over the years, this is by far the easiest, most intuitive system I’ve come across.
